Guidelines for Success

​To be a successful library science student, you must demonstrate GROWTH...
Grit--Don't quit or stop trying; look towards improvement.  
Reflection--Look at accomplishments/failures and insightfully examine them. 
Organization--Prior preparation prevents poor performance. 
Work Ethic--Most of life is showing up and putting true effort into your tasks. 
Thoughtfulness--Honestly contemplate and truthfully respond to others. 
Humanity--Lead with a compassionate, respectful, and empathetic heart. ​

 Class Activities for Students

Throughout the year, you will participate in many activities some of which are outlined in the course contract.

​All activities require specific skills, attention to detail, and commitment to the 4Cs:

Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking. ​
Course Units Include:
1) Library Science Skills
2) College and Career Readiness
3) Marketing and Advocacy
4) Curation
​5) Ethical Engagement
Customer Service
​A big part of your duties is assisting library users.
  • Greet students entering the library
  • Ask students to sign in and check their pass or proof of dismissal
  • Use good manners--excuse me, please, thank you, etc. 
  • ​Be ready to help
Collaboration
​You will be required to work with your team, team's in other periods, and staff members.
  • Practice professional courtesy
  • Communicate respectfully both verbally and in writing
  • Use technology to collaborate
  • Participate in all collaborative efforts
Organization
Maintaining order in the library is a key part in the library's and your success.
  • Shelve books and card book cards accurately
  • Manage time wisely
  • Check the library for trash, tagging, etc.
  • House assignments and resources in easy-to-find places (Google Drive)
Course Discussion, Communication, and Creation 
When corresponding and publishing work online, be mindful of your intended audience and that your work reflects your learning.
  • Write and publish like a savvy scholar
  • Use proper grammar and academic language
  • Present thoughtful comments/claims supported by evidence
  • Cite source(s)
Research, Book Reviews, and Information Literacy
Become familiar with all library resources especially Destiny, Gale databases, and using effective search skills to navigate the Internet. 
  • Practice safe, smart digital citizenship
  • Analyze and evaluate source(s)
  • Cite source(s)
  • Publish work in a professional and meaningful manner

​Google Classroom
Course assignments and announcements will be delivered and submitted through Google Classroom. ​
  • Closely read any and all posts in Google Classroom
  • Be sure to "Turn in" assignments
  • Follow assignment instructions
  • Ask questions if anything is unclear

Class Procedures for Students

Entering the Library
Everyday, it is your responsibility to:
  • Say hello and place belongings in a safe space
  • Check the agenda/Google Classroom
  • Begin daily tasks​
Assignments
Assignments are meant to demonstrate your overall GROWTH.

  • Final letter grades are determined by standards mastery
Attendance
Your presence directly impacts your grade and the library. 
  • Use "professional courtesy" with devices
  • Check the agenda/Google Classroom when absent
Ending Class
At the end of every class, it is your responsibility to:
  • Tidy up and pack up
  • Provide feedback if necessary
  • Say goodbye
