yOUr Poetry Page

yOUr Digital Library! is pleased to present a collaboration with the Ventura County Arts Council (VCAC) to host a series of bi-monthly POETRY workshops for ALL Oxnard Union students.

Poetry has the capacity to empower and heal. Now more than ever, our students crave and need opportunities to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. With the help of published poet, Ventura College Professor, and Master Poet-Teacher in the classroom, Fernando A. Salinas, students gain personalized feedback on their poems so they can improve their craft as artists and establish their voice as future leaders. The workshop series culminates in the annual Poetry Slam in May where students from all grade levels come together, share, and celebrate their work. Two of our OU students, Unique Shehee (OHS-2018) and Genesis Perez (CIHS-2019) went on to become Ventura County Youth Poet Laureates!!!
